POSITION: DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

SUMMARY

With Top-Co’s Engineering group being extremely customer supportive, the successful Director of Engineering will lead the Edmonton and Houston engineering team. The engineering team is directly involved in international customer and product support and is responsible for capturing product requirements, design system architectures/interfaces, and facilitating communication between functional teams driving development and system / product test practices. From a project perspective, the Director will track and report milestones to senior management throughout the product development life cycle, from late-research through all design phases, up to and including qualification and transition to production. The Director will leverage past experience and strong communication skills to collaborate closely with customers, marketing, regulatory, R&D, quality, reliability and operations. From the process perspective, the Director will capture metrics and select tools to drive continuous improvement of products, process and people.

The Director is a member of the executive leadership team and reports directly to the President & CEO.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct and manage a diverse Engineering and Quality group of 10+ people based in Edmonton, Houston, Texas and Weatherford, Texas.
  • Liaise, communicate and interface with other business units, customers and suppliers with an emphasis on superior customer service.
  • Provide technical expertise and solutions to E&P and service company customers operating on an international basis.
  • Manage Quality Assurance function to meet API and ISO requirements.
  • Drive improvements in the quality systems with emphasis on reducing defects and improving product quality.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering and operations to ensure design for manufacturing.
  • Assess and respond to customer related field incidents.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of how products, sites and divisions contribute to and drives the achievement of overall corporate goals.
  • Identify and develop strategic competencies required to ensure organization readiness for future opportunities and challenges, ensuring appropriate organization structures are in place to capitalize on such opportunities and to meet challenges.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership in the design and marketing of new product lines.
  • Establish and ensure that engineering initiatives are aligned with global manufacturing and sales strategies/initiatives.
  • Lead cost reduction, yield improvement and cycle time reductions for current products.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Engineering discipline (Mechanical or Petroleum preferred)
  • CET or equivalent will also be considered with significant manufacturing experience
  • 5 – 10 years experience in Engineering with an emphasis on product design and development
  • 2+ years experience in Management within an engineering group
  • Experience in a manufacturing/oil & gas environment an asset (specifically down hole)
  • Quality Management System, ISO - preferably API
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Sound organizational skills and experience with complex drawings and prints
  • Strong background in customer and supplier interface
  • Proven experience in Failure and Root Cause Analysis
  • Strong and effective presentation skills
  • Proven ability in Product Launch and Modifications

POSITION: PRODUCTION MANAGER REQUIRED FOR SAUDI ARABIA

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing – Canada and as Production Manager you will be responsible for the launch of a manufacturing facility in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Expectations include utilization of equipment, facilities, and personnel to obtain maximum efficiency and exceed company production goals and customer expectations.

Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential in this position to ensure that projects are completed to the high standards and timelines required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will undertake any or all of the following:

  • Manage, prioritize and drive production activities ensuring that you exceed company production goals, company quality objectives and customer expectations.
  • Develop and implement quality systems to achieve ISO and API certification.
  • Establish a world class manufacturing facility through the implementation of Lean with emphasis on speed, simplicity, and flexibility
  • Provides strong leadership of plant production employees in a manner that fosters participation in continuous improvement efforts, open communication and a self-directed team approach.
  • Responsible for driving 5-S programs to the lowest levels of the organization.
  • Provides direction and leadership in the resolution of production-related and quality problems to assure completion.
  • Work with engineering staff to troubleshoot any design difficulties encountered while producing products.
  • Reinforce policies to ensure safety standards are being met and that safe working habits are being enforced.
  • Monitor performance against objectives, identify and articulate counter-measures for performance that is below target, and articulate progress.
  • Monitors production capacity to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Provide supervision, leadership and analysis to adjust departmental staffing based on current and future production needs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years experience in a manufacturing setting
  • University degree/diploma or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability in setting and meeting aggressive targets and goals

POSITION: COST ACCOUNTANT

Reporting to the Controller, you will be responsible for cost accounting analysis, control inventory, including monitoring and adjusting product cost and bill of materials. Reviewing and adjusting labor and over head absorption rates coupled with establishing product cost. Our finance group is a key component in Top-Co’s continued growth and success, requiring an individual who can work efficiently within a fast paced environment, have strong interpersonal/communication skills, a proven track record of meeting deadlines and the ability to be an effective team player.

Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain average costs for all product categories.
  • Monthly reconciliation of inventory sub ledger with general ledger.
  • Analyzing, interpreting and investigating purchase prices, production and labor variances.
  • Summarize manufacturing costs and absorption, including the calculation of absorption rates.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing tasks, inventory reconciliation, analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare inter-company reconciliation including mark-up schedule and inter-company cost transaction differences.
  • Prepare plant performance reports and inventory turn schedules.
  • Analyze margin data by product, customer and location.
  • Plan, execute and reconcile year-end inventory counts.
  • Prepare working paper for auditing annual physical counts, procedures, processes and accuracy
  • Provide back up for inventory control.
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations and other company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by accounting manager.
  • Promote the company image in a positive manner.

Complexity of Tasks:

  • The work is varied and requires a high level of judiciousness in the design and application of procedures. Avoiding costly errors will be paramount.

Requirements:

  • Accounting Degree and working towards an accounting designation
  • Minimum 3 years experience in this role and within a fast paced environment.
  • Solid knowledge in general and cost accounting principals and practices.
  • Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills.
  • A hands-on and highly motivated individual.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in AccPac 5.4, MISys and MS Office Suite. Experience in Crystal Reports an asset.
  • Must be self motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills who can work under minimal supervision coupled with the ability to multi task.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have drive and ability to excel in a time sensitive environment
